About University of Exeter

At the University of Exeter, we offer exciting courses in beautiful and historic surroundings in South West England. As a member of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group of leading research universities, we combine excellence in teaching and research with an…

outstanding student experience.

We welcome over 30,000 students from more than 150 countries to our four friendly campuses: Streatham and St Luke’s in Exeter, Devon, and Penryn and Truro in Cornwall. Our locations offer environments that are inspiring, safe places where you will soon feel at home. Exeter is a historic cathedral city with UNESCO City of Literature status, and the county of Devon has fabulous coastline and two national parks. Cornwall has a unique and fascinating ecology with scenic beaches and dramatic clifftop views, coupled with a rich history of artistic and scientific innovation, including pioneering environmental technology.

We’re lucky to have some of the most beautiful, green campuses in the UK, providing plenty of areas to socialise with friends and enjoy green landscapes and outside space. After winning the sustainability category in the most recent Guardian University Awards (2020), we’re making big strides to make our campuses even greener, and our target is to be net zero by 2030.

Whichever of our campuses you choose, we’re committed to making your student experience the best it can be. With bars, pubs, clubs, theatres and music venues, at Exeter there is plenty to keep you entertained. You’ll also find world-class sports facilities for beginners and athletes alike. We’re the #1 sports university in the south of England and Wales, and we frequently finish top 5 in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) rankings each year.

We offer a wide range of undergraduate, masters and research degrees across 40 subjects, taught by world-leading academics. The 2021 Research Excellence Framework review showed that we are doing more research, of better quality, with a bigger impact on the world than ever before. Our world-leading research impact grew more than any other Russell Group university, more than 99% or our research was rated of international quality* and 12 of our subjects were in the Top 10 for world-leading impact.** We are one of the world’s Top 150 universities according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022 and have a 5 Stars global rating from QS. We are Top 50 in both the THE Most International Universities in the World 2022 table and in the THE Impact Rankings 2022, which measure universities’ overall impact through their work towards meeting the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These underline how Exeter is a fantastic place for students to come and study from all over the world.

Green Futures
Our academics include the UK’s top five most influential climate scientists – the only UK climate scientists to secure places in the global top 21 – according to The Reuters Hot List. We have been leading the way in interdisciplinary research to better understand and tackle environment and climate change for decades. In our work towards ensuring green futures we have developed specific expertise in energy, biodiversity, marine, environmental intelligence, and positive climate tipping points. Our work is influencing policy at local, national and global levels.

Health and wellbeing
Our One Health approach encompasses dementia, diabetes, antimicrobial resistance, nutrition  – and more – for a holistic approach to human wellbeing. Our research stretches from fundamental lab work right through to influencing global policies on key issues.

Social inequality
We are bringing together innovative and interdisciplinary research methods to understand, explore and address social inequalities across communities. We have particular focus on the role of women in society, the treatment and characterisation of LGBTQ+ communities by science and society, and how racism has manifested throughout history and reverberates in contemporary society.

We will challenge and inspire our community of learners from every background to thrive, develop the skills they will need for the future and lead the change the world needs. At Exeter we strive to use the power of our education and research to create a sustainable, healthy and socially just future.
